Privacy Policy (New Zealand + International)
Last Updated: 21 December 2025
1) Who we are
SimplifyNumbers.com (“we”, “us”, “our”) is operated from New Zealand. We collect and use personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and its Information Privacy Principles. Where the GDPR / UK GDPR applies to you (for example, if you are in the EEA/UK), we also aim to meet those requirements.
2) What we collect
We collect only what we need to run the site and deliver the services you request.
A. Information you provide
- Identity & contact: name, email, business type (e.g., when subscribing or downloading resources).
- Tool inputs: financial/operational figures you enter into calculators (e.g., revenue, expense ratios).
B. Information collected automatically
- Usage & device data: pages viewed, referral source, approximate location, browser/device info, and IP address (commonly via analytics and security tooling).
- Cookies / similar technologies: used for core functionality, analytics, and (where enabled) marketing.
3) How we use your information
We use personal information for these purposes:
- Provide the services you request (e.g., generate calculator outputs).
- Deliver resources you ask for (e.g., email a toolkit/guide).
- Operate, secure, and improve the website (e.g., troubleshooting, aggregated trend analysis).
- Marketing communications (only where permitted—typically with consent or where otherwise lawful). You can unsubscribe at any time.
4) Lawful basis (GDPR/UK GDPR users only)
If GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on one or more of these bases:
- Contract / steps at your request (delivering tools/resources),
- Legitimate interests (site security, fraud prevention, service improvement),
- Consent (e.g., certain marketing and cookies),
- Legal obligations (where applicable).
(If GDPR doesn’t apply to you, we still follow NZ purpose-based collection and use rules.)
5) Sharing your information
We may share personal information with:
- Service providers who help us operate (e.g., hosting, email delivery, analytics, forms, payment processors), acting under our instructions.
- Professional advisers (legal/accounting) where necessary.
- Authorities if required by law.
- A buyer/recipient if we restructure, sell, or transfer the business (subject to appropriate protections).
We do not sell personal information in the ordinary meaning of “sell”.
6) International transfers (important)
Our providers may store or process information outside New Zealand (e.g., the USA).
New Zealand requirement (IPP12): before we disclose personal information to an overseas recipient, we take steps to ensure we have reasonable grounds to believe one of the permitted conditions applies—most commonly that the recipient will protect the information in a way comparable to NZ privacy safeguards, including via contractual protections.
GDPR/UK GDPR users: where applicable, we use recognised transfer mechanisms (for example, contractual clauses and/or other safeguards) to protect personal data when transferred internationally.
7) Security
We take reasonable safeguards to protect personal information (e.g., access controls and encryption in transit such as SSL/TLS). No system is 100% secure, and you use internet services at your own risk.
8) Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes in this policy, unless we must keep it longer for legal, accounting, or dispute resolution reasons. We then delete or de-identify it where reasonable.
9) Cookies and choices
You can control cookies through:
- our cookie banner/preferences tool (where shown), and/or
- your browser settings.
Some cookies are necessary for the site to function; turning them off may affect performance.
10) Your rights
New Zealand (Privacy Act 2020):
- Access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: request correction of inaccurate/outdated information.
EEA/UK (GDPR/UK GDPR, where applicable):
- access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and rights relating to certain automated decision-making.
Marketing opt-out: unsubscribe anytime using the link in our emails.
11) Privacy breaches
If we experience a privacy breach that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the NZ Privacy Commissioner as required.
